We do Big Maths every day to help us with our mental maths skills.

Can you remember our learn its?

10 + 0 = 10

9 + 1 = 10

8 + 2 = 10

7 + 3 = 10

6 + 4 = 10

5 + 5 = 10

The idea of Learn Its is that children can instantly recall the answer without having to work it out every time.

We have already learnt our doubles to 5.

At the moment we are practising...

- Counting
**forward to 100** - Counting
**backwards**from 20 - Counting in 10s forward to 120
- Counting in 2s forwards to 24
- Counting in 5s forwards to 60

How does Pim help us?

Pim helps us to remember that if we know

3 + 4 = 7

then

4 + 3 must = 7

We say MUST because we still have the same amount of hands! (or cubes or marbles or whatever)

Also

1 thing + 1 thing = 2 things

1 ten + 1 ten = 2 tens

10 + 10 = 20

How does Squiggleworth help us?

Squigleworth helps us with Place Value. He helps us to understand how much a digit in each column is worth.

For example if you had 52:

What's that squiggle of 2 worth? 2 units

What's that squiggle of 5 worth? 50

How do you know? It's a 5 in the tens column. 5 tens are 50.
